POLYWOOD Care and Maintenance

POLYWOOD furniture is made from HDPE (high density polyethylene). HDPE is known for its large strength to density ratio and is impervious to all types of weather conditions including sun, ice, rain, snow and salt water. This extremely durable material is fastened with high quality stainless steel hardware, making your new POLYWOOD furniture strong and long lasting while requiring minimal upkeep and maintenance.

Cleaning of POLYWOOD Material

All POLYWOOD material has been purified and UV protected. All you need for general cleaning is soap and water.

If deeper cleaning is needed, or if you need to remove a stain, use a solution of 2/3 water and 1/3 bleach. This will not alter or affect the vibrant and long lasting color of your furniture. Just ensure you use a soft bristle brush when trying to clean tight spaces and creases.

You can also use a high pressure power wash to clean your POLYWOOD furniture; however, it should not exceed 1,500 psi (the equivalent of a car wash).

Cleaning of Hardware

POLYWOOD furniture uses an 18-8 commercial grade stainless steel on its hardware. The hardware also has an additional layer of "Xylan" cosmetic and protective coating.

While the hardware has a high level of corrosive resistance, over time it may show some sign of corrosion in salt air environments.

If your POLYWOOD furniture does become corroded, we recommended washing with soap and water, using a soft bristle brush to scrub the corroding areas of the hardware. You can also use appliance touch-up paint (which can be purchased at local hardware stores) to protect the hardware.

Cleaning of Cushions

For the best year around performance in outdoor settings POLYWOOD cushions are made from Sunbrella fabrics. The fabric should be cleaned regularly before food and dirt particles are allowed to accumulate. This will eliminate the need for more deep cleanings.

After brushing off any loose dirt, use a sponge or soft bristle brush to clean fabric with a solution of 1/4 cup mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water. Allow cleaning solution to soak into fabric. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow fabric to air dry.

Do not use a steamer or iron set. Sunbrella fabrics air dry very quickly and machine drying is not recommended.
